Below is a shot of my bedroom (and Ms. Riley who INSISTED she be in the pic!) About a year ago I re-painted it from a pale lavendar to this much bolder purple. I THINK it works since I have so much natural light and white mouldings. Do you? Originally my house was a 3 bedroom, 1 bath. When I bought the house about 8 years ago there were only 2 bedrooms. The master was HUGE...the previous remodel has torn down a wall and created a HUGE master bedroom but the bathroom they added was tiny and no others words would describe it for me, except, ICKY! I don't even have pictures of it....we tore it out pronto and that was WAY before I blogged or thought about before and after pics. It was a closet size bath with pedestal sink, aging toilet and mold covered shower stall.
This is a shot that is taken as if you were sitting on the bed. You can see the entrance to my dressing area that can be seperated from the bedroom with the slidding door on a rail. The door is from a salvage shop in Houston (Adkins Architectural) and was from a School. It's got really cool ripply glass. I want to do something to spiff it up.....would a valance look ok over the sliding rail? I don't like that part of the door.
I'll show you more of the dressing room and bath on my next post but wanted to finish the bedroom tour. This is the corner opposite the bed. I'm pondering putting a tv in the armoire...right now there is only a stereo. All my friends say a tv in the bedroom is great.....what do YA'LL say?
Here is my problem wall; however, I think I have a solution. Just the weekend I moved the black chest (it's filled with jewelry) into my dressing area. I have the mantel I salvaged from the re-do of the fireplace in the den. I thought it MIGHT look nice put on that wall. Right now it's in my garage and I've puttered with it a bit, sanding, pondering painting or just leaving chippy.
Here's a picture of the mantle. What do YA'll think about that? I was envisioning being able to decorate the top of the mantle and maybe put white lights in the hole where the fire should be. Or do you have any others suggestions for this wall?
Here's a view of the built in shelf. I have just a little bit of "stuff" in them right now. I like a simple line but there is just something missing. Any ideas? Paint the back of the shelf? The shelves are glass and adjustable.

And finally, this is a view FROM the dressing area looking into my bedroom. I hoping to eventually put hardwood in this room. It's the only room in the house that is carpeted (except for bathroom and kitchen and they are tile). But that's a project that will have to wait until the economy gets a little better....ya know what I Mean!??!!? Thanks for ANY input or advice you have about how I could PERK up my boudoir!
Your bedroom is beautiful, I love the mantel , I can't wait to see what you do with it! I wish I had your sense of design!
ReplyDeleteThat is one big room. I love the purple and I really love those mirrors hanging over your bed.
ReplyDeleteGreat room! Lots of things you can do with it!
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteI love your bedroom. You have so much space! I like the idea of using the mantle on that wall. You could use candles or flickering lights behind a "fireplace" screen.
Blessings,
Lorilee
I would use that mantle in heart beat~ you definitely have the space for it and your wall color is gorgeous! I love that chair next to the little table, too.
ReplyDeleteI would freak ( or my mister ) would if we didn't have a tv in the bedroom. Since you have the armoire it would not take away from your decor. I especially love curling up in my bed to watch a movie. I do know some people that are against that but not me.
I can't wait to see your dressing area!
Your bedroom is lovely. You really have done some wonderful things with it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sweetie
great color on the walls. I would look for a fabulous print fabric and re-cover the chair that's inthe picture...something with some green and the purple tones...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour of your bedroom! What a nice big room. I think putting the mantle on one of the walls is a great idea. It would add a lot of interest and depth to the room. As far as the tv goes, I have one in an armoire in my bedroom. I don't use it much but it is nice to have sometimes. I would love to have one in my bedroom so I could watch the news and weather while I am getting ready in the morning.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Jen
Love your purple bedroom. I did a purple bedroom for a client a few years back. I would suggest swaging a drapery panel across the entrance to the dressing areas. Something soft, billowing and white. Swag it to the right and use a tassel for the hold back. or, you could install an old white wooden screen door in the door opening. I say yes to the TV, I'd be lost without mine. Love the mantle. I would use battery pillar candles in the hearth. You could put some birch logs in and then tuck in the candles. Hope this helps

You bedroom looks great-the trim really pops with that color! I do think a valance with a panel at least one one side would dress that door right up! The mantel is a great idea! You know they do have electric fireplace inserts just for those types of situations-they are pretty reasonably priced too! Oh and the shelves-how about some fabric behind them or a pretty wall paper? I love doing stuff like that-Have fun with it girl! ~Smiles~Tam!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan
ReplyDeleteI am no interior decorator.. but there are many of them out there.. I think your room look lovely just the way it is....
Monica
This is a beautiful space. How lucky for you that it is so large. I think the color is wonderful, and I would definitely use the mantle. And I LOVE that door (I have thing for doors go figure), Adkins is such a fantastic place to find treasures. What a great space, thanks for sharing. Kathy
ReplyDeletePut in in. I have a electric fireplace in the bedroom and love it. Lovew your colors! Great work. Kathy
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room you. The mantel is wonderful. I can't wait to see what you come up with.. You have a wonderful sense of design. Thanks so much for swinging by to see my little assistant and his work.. it means the world. Have a super day my friend. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteVery Pretty,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great bedroom! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Jenks is just outside of Tulsa...you know, for future reference :).
ReplyDeleteI love the color! You have a very pretty bedroom. I also like the mantel/fireplace, I'm sure it will look great!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is sooooo pretty. That color is awesome. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Is the cane syrup brand you were thinking of "Steens?"
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! Thank you so much for visiting my blog!!
ReplyDeleteI really love your bedroom and the color combination is fabulous! Great old mantle! I like Lorilee's idea of the candles inside a faux fireplace. I was going to say that but then saw she already had. You can also find an old wood holder and set it "inside" to put your candles in...that way pets (and your cute pets at that!) don't knock them over.
Have a lovely evening,
Becky
Very nice , looks like a great place to relax and read with some chocolate mint tea .
ReplyDeleteMary
Hey Susan;
ReplyDeleteI love the color of your bedroom! Girl, don't you go another day without a tv in your bedroom. It's a must!
Your bedroom is huge and it looks great!! I love the mantel idea. I was thinking candles or maybe a cool screen...maybe from salvaged shutters or somthing to fill in the space.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you decide. Oh, and keep the TV out of the bedroom. We made that mistake and now I can't fall asleep without the darn thing on!!
Jen
I have a lavender bedroom also. I have pics on my flicker badge. I love my purple room. My favorite room in the house. So shabby chic. Yours is beautiful. Do you have any ideas as to what to do with that door. I need some help. I love it, but really have no idea what I will do with it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful colour Susan which looks elegant with the white, the mantle will look wonderful there you have a great eye for design. I kept meaning to tell you that your little dog Carson is adorable, hugs, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giggle re my bench drape :)
i want a sitting area in my bedroom!
ReplyDeletei say no on the tv in the bedroom. not very romantic. a fireplace would be a lovelier choice. mmmm. nice.
I don't have any suggestions, but I love those mirrors over your bed!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan :)
ReplyDeleteYou've done a beautiful job with your bedroom! I don't believe in having a TV in the bedroom if you're married, but when you're single I think it's great unless you're tempted to stay up all night watching it. Have fun changing things up! :)
How did your date go with the Eharmony guy? Have you tried Match.com? That's where I met Rich :)
I'm so sorry I haven't been by, but moving has put a big dent in my blogging time. I hope you'll forgive me.
Hugs back to you!
rue
Oh I would die for a bedroom that big and beautiful ! You are so luck !
ReplyDeleteThe color is wonderful...fresh & different!
ReplyDeleteYes definitely to the tv & to a swag above the door & pulled to the side. Great room. Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you'll return soon, DebraK
I think it works great! So great, I wish I could show Hubby because I wanted to paint my formal living room that color and he wouldn't let me! Now he can see your gorgeous room and kick himself in the butt! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHey Susan! Thank you for visiting me. I just saw your adorable pet pics and they are both so cute! Carson looks so silky soft! Pepper is kind of wirey! LOL! Her face is really soft though.
ReplyDeleteYou asked what I put in the kong? Well, I put regular people peanut butter in it, sometimes small dog biscuits too. I wedge one into the opening and the others are loose inside. Once she gets out the first one, the rest come out pretty easily, but she enjoys it. Some people put yogurt in them and freeze it to make it last longer. I haven't done that yet, because the weather is so cold. I have also wedged a big greenie stick in there. But I don't think I will let her have those anymore. I have read that they cause blockages in the intestines. I haven't tried the kong squirt treat stuff yet.
Have a great week!
Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteThis is very pretty, it was fun taking the tour. Cindy
Thanks for stopping by! Sherry will appreciate your compliments. I love your bedroom. I think the mantle will look great on the wall. Great idea! Kristen
ReplyDeleteFirst of all ... I love the color of your bedroom! I also think a TV in the bedroom (concealed if possible) is essential. I set my TV timer and usually fall asleep watching HGTV. (I am single so I sleep alone.)
ReplyDeleteIt's a stunning room. That bold purple works so well with all the other more subtle colors you've used. I love it! And I think that mantel has awesome potential. I'd do it for sure!
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! I love your bedroom and the color is beautiful and the green accents really make it sing. I also like your idea of the old mantle. Maybe you could put one of those candle thingys in there and have some pretty flames going on!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie and thank you for your visit,
Shelia :)
Your bedroom is beautiful. That mantle is so awesome, I hope you use it in your bedroom. I've seen lots of different items placed in the center of mantles that don't have fireplaces. How fun.
ReplyDeleteHi Susan...
ReplyDeleteJust read your note...so glad that you stopped by!!! Girlfriend, your bedroom is gorgeous, of course you've used one of my most favorite colors...that dusty lavender is soooo pretty!!! Love all of your pretty furniture too...it's all so lovely!!!
You asked about being able to enlarge photos once they're posted on the blog...well it took me an entire day to figure out how to do that...hehe!!! What happens is...when you're uploading a photo while your posting...it always loads at the top...if you move that photo down into your blog, you lose some of the HTML language and then you can't click on it to enlarge it once you've posted! There are a couple of ways that you can get the photo to enlarge but the easiest way is to just load your photos in order...upload the last photo of your post "first" (just loading them from bottom to top or in backwards order)! The second way to accomplish this deals with cutting and pasting the HTML for the photo but you have to edit in HTML mode. It's a bit more complicated! Everyone I know just opts to load their photos backward. Eeekks...I hope that I explained that well...let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help!!!
Have a great weekend, my friend!
Chari
Looks like you have been very busy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words. I felt bad complaining about not being able to build our new dream house when I started thinking about so many people losing their homes. I am grateful today and was happy to get the proceed check from the sale of our 1 1/2 acre lot today. God is Good & I Trust Him!
Have a Super Weekend!
Darlene
You did good with the purple! That is a hard color to work with.
ReplyDeleteI like my TV in the bedroom. I like falling asleep to noise and I can escape into my bedroom and watch Lifetime when needed.
I like the mantle. And I like the swag idea better than a valance. It would look more boudoir!
Oh, your bedroom is gorgeous! Love the color! Loooove that mantel! blessings, Nancy
ReplyDeleteAwesome! So many things I see that I love. I love the mirrors, the wall color, the sliding door is genious!!!! I would love to have that in my house. What about some sort of black and white striped awning with a scalloped edge? To make it look like you are entering a beauty shop or something? I saw a lady who sewed her kitchen curtains to look like that and it was so charming. It felt as if you were in a real cafe!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words about my job!
Oh, and you could put some cute vinyl letters on that sliding door that say "Beauty Shop" for an added touch!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely use the mantle. That color on your walls is gorgeous. Very pretty room
ReplyDeleteHey Susan, your boudoir is lovely! I love the color, also! And I think the mantle would add a lot of character! On the backs of the glass shelves, could you put some fabric or scrapbooking paper/like wall paper? It might add a touch of whimsy....and it would bring some feminine touch with the right paper.
ReplyDeleteJust an idea.
