As a fairly new blogger all these firsts excite me! I feel like Sally Fields in her Oscar acceptance speech years ago....YOU like me...you really like me! And let me tell you, I LIKE YOU ALL TOO!!!!! Here's to great friends who are supportive, caring, genuine and like-minded. Don't you all agree it's great to find each other and are so awe-struck that there are people "out there" just like ourselves. When I blogged about my love of Old Doors because of their history, and the stories they could tell and their beauty, so many of you chimed in and said "I LOVE DOORS too"! To me that's just AWESOME....I've never shared my love of doors before but you made me feel like it was the most normal thing! THANKS for the bottom of my heart!
Also thanks for your kind words and promptings to go forge a new life for myself this year. First, I do want to let ya'll know I'm not a hermit and do get out and am not always in front of the computer or TV. I'm just making a concerted effort this year to LIVE LIFE MORE FULLY and take every opportunity to get out and about.....I know God has BIG PLANS for me but I've got to help him out by making myself available. Look out world....I'm MOVING ON! For a brief background, I got divorced 3 years ago after being with my ex for 17 years (dating + marriage). He is a good person and so am I....we just weren't right for each other. However, I NEVER thought I would find myself trying to create a new life at 50. It's a challenge but I'm doing great and getting better. So thanks for being part of my NEW LIFE!

This was taken the morning after Hurricane Ike below through Houston this past September. My neighbor came over and boarded up my windows, and we moved everything that could possibly FLY away in the wind into the garage. There are HUGE oak trees surrounding our houses and I didn't want to end up squished like the Bad Witch in the Wizard of Oz underneath my house so I hunkered down and my next door neighbor (I was NOT going to spend the night at home alone---too scary!.) The wind howled, trees swayed and rain pelted from about 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and when we awoke (from the little bit of dozing we snuck in) I was afraid to look out the door to see if my house was still standing. The streets, yards and driveways were littered with many branches and leaves that had been shaken down by the relentless whipping wind. This is a picture of my neighbors teenage boys, donned in all weather gear making their way back up the driveway after looking to see if my house was o.k. And HALLELUJAH...it was!
I know this isn't part of the "tag" but I thought you might want to see how my house fared. As you can see the lawn is COVERED with branches but I was so relieved to see JUST that! No flooding, no trees through the roof.....branches I can HANDLE!
Ya'll have a blessed day and go tell someone you care about they are loved and are special to you! You can never tell them ENOUGH!
I'm liking the new background!
ReplyDeleteHouse looks great, you were really lucky!
Wow!
ReplyDeleteThank you for tagging me! I'll try to do it soon.
I have been tagged so many times, I am not playing this round. I am "Choosing" not to play, but did make a new list today and have a new background, so check it out! Carol
ReplyDeleteYour blog looks great. I'm so glad your house was okay through the hurricane. How scary!
ReplyDeleteJen
Wow, what an experience! We have the occasional tornado and cold snap or blizzard I can't imagine how scary that evening was. I am glad that you only experienced branches and leaves.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award...yes I too find it amazing how much all of us bloggers have in common. I am a fairly new blogger too and I am amazed at what a great network of women are out there.
ReplyDeleteSusan, it's so nice to meet you. What a beautiful post. I'm glad to hear you're moving on. I'm sure it has had it's moments. I'm so relieved to see your home was spared. I'm anxious to see more.. it looks darling. :-) I'm not aware of a bloggers RMS.. I'm sure there probably is though. Isn't there a blog for everything now? lol I have a couple of things posted on there, and the server was a mess and you couldn't get on.. so.. the blog was born. :-) over at RMS I was known as decorator101. I got beat up a couple of times and took things off and put them back on..and then decided, ya know I can't please everyone..I hope this helped clear it up some. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better..have a super day.
ReplyDeletehugs ~lynne~
It is fun to add new things to our blogs. It is like decorating a room. Only this one dosen't cost an arm and a leg! hehehehe Kathy
ReplyDeleteWow! What a mess! I'm glad you all fared well and no significant damage was had. (at least by you)
ReplyDeleteYour furbabies are cuties. I love the natural ears on your schnauzer. We rescued Miss Cookie so her ears were cropped when she was a wee thing.
Could you just imagine how cute our two pups would look frolickin together. Oops, but no kitties for Cookie. She absolutely despises cats. I don't know why.
Susan, here is the weblink to the Rate My Space website:

No blog as far as I know, just a lot of problems with the website has encouraged some posters there to go elsewhere.
This is such a fun tag, glad you got it. Thank goodness your house was spared! And I love your new blog dress. Kathy
ReplyDeleteThank you for the sweet words! Love your blog! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo, Emily
ReplyDeleteYou were very lucky Susan! Even as far north as Salado suffered great damage. I stayed at an inn in Salado, a couple months after Ike & the host told us he lost a dozen old trees. :o(
